Gretel Survives Surgery!!!
EXTREMELY GRAPHIC _ these are real photos of what negligence can do - the owner of the dogs WANTS THEM BACK _ He has been slowly choking these dogs to death and he thinks he should have them back to do it all over again? Sorry I don't think that is a good idea.
This is Gretel after her life saving surgery - she did not have long with a raging infection and an open wound...Thank you to McComb County Animal Control, McComb Animal Hospital - and Dorie Sparkman of Akita Rescue Society of Florida.
This from Dorie:
"My heros this Christmas are the staff and volunteers at McComb Animal Control, Nan, a local resident, and the vets and staff at McComb Animal Hospital in McComb Mississippi. Hansel and Gretel owe their lives to these people. Gretel is safe and warm tonight....not dead in a ditch because some idiot put a collar on her and let it get so tight that its dam near cut her throat. Akita Angels Michelle, Monique, Theresa and Nan did not forget her."

Meet Hansel!!!!!!!!
This is Hansel only one day after surgery and look at the twinkle in his eye...This boy is just as sweet as can been even after all that he has been through!
WARNING THESE IMAGES ARE VERY DISTURBING:
Several days ago a email came across the rescue list asking for help in Mississippi...There were two young akitas running loose with embedded collars...
We hear this a lot - embedded collars are not new to those in rescue...But then we saw these photos...
These dogs have been running for quite sometime but how does this happen??? We will never know how someone could stand buy and watch their dogs slowly choke to death.
These two very young akitas showed up in Nan's yard and she sprang into action - her first thought was to feed them and then when she saw their condition this amazing lady started adding antibiotics to their food...Enter McComb County Animal Control ... they are making a monumental effort to catch and SAVE these dogs...
Akita Rescue Society of Florida has been on the front line offering help and support to aide in the capture of these young akitas...Once caught and brought back to health they will make their way to sunny Florida and ARSF's loving arms...
PLEASE everyone - this is a HORROR! These young siblings have shown an incredible will to LIVE...The surgery for these dogs was estimated at over $800 per dog to remove the collars...that was before we saw the photos. Now it is not just a matter of removing the collars but saving their lives..Obviously there will be extensive surgery, rehab and boarding involved for them.
It is truly a miracle that they are alive - let's dig deep and help them to survive...
